Barber Dedicates Win To New Armchair

Langley 2nd Xi bouyed by an excellent cup win in the week gained their first league win of the season away at high flying Disley.

New skipper Barber won the toss and elected to bat on a green deck.

Rick Hughes 0 sadly perished in the first over hitting a full toss to mid off.

Gregory and Howdle settled in against some tight bowling. They took the score to 48 when Gregory 31 was caught at mid on.

Langley then lost 2 more quick wickets as Gold 0 was bowled and Howdle 16 for the second week running drilled a catch to a fielder. This time as gully took a good catch.

Veteran Letven and Nadin took the score to 100 but the run rate began to decline in tough batting conditions.

With 10 overs to go Langley began to attack, as a result of this wickets fell, Nadin 16, Letven 24 both skied chances as Langley struggled to 120-6.

Credit to Ben Simnett who hit a superb 32 some stylish drives mixed with a solid some hard blows. Assisted by Frame 12, Barber 1no and Love 6no. Langley posted a respectable 150-9 against a more than useful attack. The pick of which was Pollard 4-30.

In reply Disley started well reaching 22 before Frame bowled both openers Dickman 2 and Reynolds 16.

Potter and Wettasinghe then put the hosts in a strong position as the latter hit some lusty blows smashing a rapid 40, they took the score to 83 before he was well caught by Letven on the boundary as Frame claimed a third wicket.

Barber then struck as D. Potter 15 was caught behind by Gregory. Frame then had Tweed 7 caught by Letven at mid off and Pollard 5 was the victim of another fine boundary catch this time by Laughton.

The game was in the balance as Disley were 110-6, Prath hit a quick 22 before Barber trapped him LBW and when Welsby 4 was bowled by Barber 10 men Disley need 15 with the last pair at the wicket.

In a tense finale S. Potter was struck 3 times on the head by Letven. With 5 needed Letven bowled the brave youngster as Langley claimed a 4 run victory.

Frame 5-50, Barber 3-52 and Letven 1-3 took the wickets.

A fantastic match played in good spirits. Credit must go to both sides. Langley must build on excellent week as they entertain Poynton next week.
